Villadossola - Domodossola

Description of cycle route

This route reaches two “Nature Paths” and to be precise the “Villadossola Path” and “Domodossola Path”, both created as part of the LIFE–Natura project that aims to improve and make the most of riparian environments along the river Toce, in particular within the Site of Community Importance called “Greto del Toce”. The route to the north runs along the river bed of Domodossola, whilst to the south it crosses the wide and bright pastures of Villadossola. These paths are equipped in part with a series of didactical panels (in completion) describing the main natural environments and animal species present in the area. This route starts from the square in front of the Villadossola municipal stadium. To reach the “Nature Path”, back to the entrance of the stadium, cross the bridge over the ENEL canal and follow the cycle path to the left. Continue along the grit path until you cross the footbridge over the Rio Lancone. Immediately after, leave the path and take the dirt track to the left, cross the A-road viaduct and after a few hundred metres you are inside the “Villadossola Nature Path”, that runs along the river Toce pastures. To continue along the route towards the “Domodossola Nature Path”, return to the starting point in front of the stadium. After the bridge over the ENEL canal, at the entrance to the square, continue along the gritted cycle path to the right. Pass the fishing lake, the railway tunnel, the bridge over the river Mizzoccola and the subway under the Aroad continuing along the river bed where the “Domodossola Nature Path” is located. Once this route comes to an end you can continue to follow the cycle path to the Mizziccola bridge to return then to the starting point.
