From Villa Taranto to Verbania Fondotoce

Description of cycle route

The start can coincide for comfort and charm of the route with the entrance to the Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens, in Via Vittorio Veneto, on the border between the built-up areas of Intra and Pallanza. Therefore, cycle along the path that leads from Villa Taranto to the charming lakefront of Verbania Pallanza: around 1 km to cover on two wheels without
difficulty, amongst other things very pleasant on summer days thanks to partial shade. Verbania Pallanza is around 200 metres above sea level: the cycle-footpath ends here giving way to a lane or lakefront space that does not have a lane dedicated to bikes. However, you can cycle along it taking due care and attention to pedestrians. Another pleasant and never difficult route leads to the charming village of Verbania Suna, around 2 km away. This route is very simple, always overlooking the lake, with a marvellous view, firstly of the Isolino di San Giovanni and then Isola Madre. However, your gaze can sweep over the imposing peaks of the Ossola mountains in the background, before your very eyes. Continue along the state road if you wish (however be careful as the pavement becomes narrower and it is best to continue on the road), firstly along Via Paolo Troubetzkoy (at the lights turn left along the main road you encounter coming from the lakefront) and then Via Quarantadue Martiri, abandoning in part the view of Lake Maggiore. Take great care from “Tre Ponti” as the road is very busy and without any preferential lane! To the left cane fields alternate with flourishing green spaces: this is the Fondotoce Nature Reserve. The cane fields are very characteristic and one of the most extensive along Lake Maggiore, ideal location to breed many species of fish and preferred habitat for numerous species of birds. Inside there are a very convenient footpath and a cycle path allowing visitors to observe the charming landscape (info: tel. +39 0322 240239). Our route ends just after the large Fondotoce roundabout, from which, turning left, the second foot-cycle path starts.
