Toce Falls

Description of route

The route proposed enables you to reach the highest waterfall in Europe (almost 150 metres – open from June to September). It is reached via the Ossola Valley taking the A26 to Gravellona Toce and then the Sempione SS33 to Formazza. Premia is on the way: in Cadarese there is the “Premia Terme” well-being centre with its beneficial hot waters (really worth a visit). Continue on this road and enter the new helicoidal tunnel that leads to Formazza: from here climb towards the Toce Falls. After a few kilometres of hairpin bends, on the left, in Sottofrua, you catch a glimpse of the falls. Once at the summit, park your motorbike and admire the highest waterfalls in Europe from the wooden bridge overlooking the falls. Now head for Riale, on your bike, where the route ends, travelling along a pleasant road with gentle bends that opens to a green valley once in Riale. Leave your bike here and have lunch in one of the characteristic local restaurants. Local cold meats and salami and Bettelmat cheese are a must. Lastly, a beautiful walk to the Church of Riale or, a little further on the Lake Morasco dyke.
