From April 18th to 25th the Bothanical Gardens of Villa Taranto in Verbania-Pallanza are guesting the Tulip Week, inaugurated by Captain Neil Mc Eacharn in 1957 for the first time.
Sure the unique and inimitable protagonist of the exhibition will be the "Tulip from Turkey", the country where it grows spontaneously and was originally cultivated about 1000 years ago. In fact, the term "tulip" derivates from the Greek “turban” because of its particular shape which make everybody think of the magic East. But along the beautiful itinerary called "Little Holland" there will be an exposition of more than 26.000 bulbs, which belong to 65 varieties of tulip (for example, the elegant “Cummings” with a lilla and white flower, the famous “Flamming Parrot”, the less known “Black Parrot”, the rare Black Tulip, the “Queen of night” as well as the enormous “Big chief” with a corolla diameter of more than 10 centimeters).
During the Tulip Week visitors who buy 5 tickets consecutively at full price will receive a special floral gift consisting in a bouquet of coloured dahlias.
The spring season in Villa Taranto also let fans and tourists admire forsythias, magnolias, rhododendrons, cornus, paulonias and, the last but not least, the "Davidia Involucrata" normally known as "tree of handkerchiefs" thanks to the characteristic shape of its white and hanging leaves.
The park of Villa Taranto is open everyday - holidays included, from 8.30 to 18.30. It has inside and outside parkings for cars and buses. For more information, please call +39 0323 556667 – 0323 404555 or visit the Internet website www.villataranto.it.
