Are you already regretting your summer holidays, rich of colours, events and music? So come and visit Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta and Lake of Mergozzo in autumn!
Here, the "bang goes my holiday!" is sweeter and, in the sunny days, you'll take your... "laketime" (as we call it!).
You can do it, getting one of the magic excursion by boat organised by the "Navigazione Lago Maggiore": till October 16 reach Locarno (swiss part of Lake Maggiore) or take the "Lake Maggiore Express" to make a tour along Lake Maggiore admiring the islands and the castles, reach Switzerland and the Vigezzo Valley aboard of the panoramic train called "Vigezzina".
Till October, 23 the Borromeo Islands are still open to public, with its gardens and fascinating palaces; for the flowers' lovers do not miss a visit in the Botanical Gardens of Villa Taranto, dressed with the magical autumn colours (opened till the end of October).
Regarding music, even if the famous festivals are already finished, there are many live music proposals: Stresa guests till the end of September the 5 stars castles "Dino Ciani", hosted in the Azalea Hall of Hotel Regina Palace (free entrance, www.concerticianidistresa.com).
Verbania Pallanza guests on October, 2 in the Church of San Leonardo at 3 p.m. 15, the fourth edition of the choir festival "In...canto d'ottobre sul lago" (free entrance, www.associazionecoripiemontesi.com).
And before winter, take the chance to visit the woods around the lakes maybe searching chestnuts or getting on the top of Mottarone mountain (easyly reachable with the cable car Stresa-Alpino-Mottarone).
Make a funny walk also in the cities of the lake: maybe visiting the "market stalls" dedicated to the local handcraft and to the food and wine excellences.
Are you a bit lazy?! Take note, and enjoy the literature awards, scheduled in autumn: for ex. the "Stresa Literature Award", whose award ceremony is scheduled on October, 30 in the Regina Palace Hotel.
Museums and exhibitions complete the turistic cultural offer: we suggest a visit in the original "Cap Museum" of Ghiffa (opened till the end of October) or in the Archeological Museum of Arona, where till November, 20 you'll have the chance to visit the temporary exhibition "E l'uomo incontrò il lupo - And the man met the wolf), free entrance.
Many food&wine festivals offer you the chance to taste the local speciality. Here you'll find the details.
Not only relax in autumn on the lakes: colours, notes and flavours to be discovered and appreciated. We're looking forward to welcoming you!
