An original art route on Lake Maggiore among „Art Nouveau“ examples in precious villas, hotels (i.e. the Regina Palace Hotel and the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées), railway stations and the landing stages of the „Navigazione Lago Maggiore“.
In Arona, Meina, Stresa, Baveno, Verbania-Intra, Ghiffa, Oggebbio, Cannero and Cannobio… like in Paris!
The creative and dynamic Liberty Style (other name of „Art Nouveau“) was born during the Belle Epoque Period at the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th Century in Europe.
It came to Lake Maggiore thanks to the development of so called „Grand Tour“ and a noble form of tourism.
In that period the international Simplon Railway from Milan, through Arona, Stresa and Verbania to Domodossola and Switzerland (the Simplon Pass) was built in fact.
The style consists in arabesque, curves and asymmetry, the combination of figurative arts, architecture and technology as well as that one of iron and crystal.
